If you are on a weight loss program and exercising to help you speed up the process and get in physical shape, you will need to increase your fluid intake. By all rights, you should be consuming four cups of water for every 1,000 calories you consume.

When you exercise, you lose water through perspiration. You can replace this loss through frequent drinks of water. Some individuals prefer to drink as they work out, others like to drink immediately afterwards. Water is sufficient in most cases. The options are few. Fruit drinks have too many carbohydrates creating stomachaches. Sports drinks are, in such instances, actually better. They have electrolytes and encourage you to drink more.

If you wish to provide yourself with a challenge, join the resistance. Resistance training is a form of strength training. All exercises force you to work against a resisting force. This helps you work harder to develop strength.


The most common type of resistance training is also the least expensive. While you can turn to specialized machinery, you can also buy elastic resistors. These are simple and easy to use thick elastic bands. You can tie them to a doorknob, place them under your foot or stretch them between your two hands.


The point of these elastic bands is to help you build up certain functional benefits. These include increased bone, muscles, tendon and ligament strength. It helps improve your cardiovascular system, although it is primarily an aerobic exercise. While it does help you burn off some calories, you should always combine it with a good cardiovascular workout.
