If you are on a weight loss program and exercising to help you speed up the process and get in physical shape, you will need to increase your fluid intake. By all rights, you should be consuming four cups of water for every 1,000 calories you consume.

This is necessary to prevent dehydration and aid in everyday body functions. You will have to change your approach and increase your consumption if you are dieting and involved in an exercise program.

When you exercise, you lose water through perspiration. You can replace this loss through frequent drinks of water. Some individuals prefer to drink as they work out, others like to drink immediately afterwards. Water is sufficient in most cases. However, if you do continuous and strenuous exercises for more than an hour, drink something else.
The options are few. Fruit drinks have too many carbohydrates creating stomachaches. Sports drinks are, in such instances, actually better. They have electrolytes and encourage you to drink more.
