Weight Gain And Birth Control

Birth control methods were created to solve the numerous problems encountered by the family. Birth control pills are safe for most women–statistically safer even than delivering a baby--but they carry some risks. Birth control pills are not ideal for women who smoke, and most practitioners won’t prescribe them to smokers over the age of 35 because the risks really escalate at that point.
Is there really a connection between birth control and weight gain? In a recent survey, 50% of all women believed that birth control pills might cause unwanted weight gain. Of these women, 20% said this belief was the main reason for not using oral contraceptives. There is also evidence that women or changing the methods of birth control or stop using the pill because they believe it contributes to weight gain. However, the good news is that the review found no evidence to support a possible association between combination contraceptives or birth control and weight gain.

Researchers have found it difficult to prove a connection between birth control and weight gain. While many women do gain weight after starting use of oral contraceptives, it is difficult to know whether this weight gain is actually caused by the use of the pill or other lifestyle factors. In most cases, women taking oral contraceptives report a weight gain of five pounds or less. Only a small percentage of women experience a weight gain of more than 10 pounds after starting a prescription of pills for birth control. Presumably, any weight gain or weight loss related to the use of contraceptive pills is a side effect that will happen within three months after the start of the recipe. Some studies have shown that while the pill may add a few pounds in the first water retention, the added weight disappears as the body adjusts to the hormones.

Another study found no difference between women taking hormonal contraceptives and those who took a placebo. The other studies looked at women with different types and doses of hormonal contraception, and reached the same conclusion.

The claim may have had some truth many years ago, when the pill contained high levels of estrogen, the hormones that cause water retention and increased appetite. Today, most versions of the pill have only half the amount found in early versions.

There is another factor that has nothing to do with the pill. It is a fact that most women in the western world start birth control as teenagers and continue through their 20 years, a period when women naturally tend to gain weight. It is also possible that women who expect to gain weight after starting on a prescription pill for birth control are unconsciously modify their diet and exercise habits. However, if a woman has tried various methods of contraception and had no success in controlling unwanted weight gain with diet and exercise, you may want to ask your healthcare provider if insulin resistance is contributing to their problems. A simple blood test can determine the presence of this condition. If a woman suffers from insulin resistance, a diet low in carbohydrates may be necessary to stabilize their weight.

Any weight gain after starting pills of more than 5% of body weight may be a sign of a female tendency to insulin resistance and abnormal glucose metabolism. With this amount of weight gain associated with an oral contraceptive, a woman should be evaluated for possible insulin resistance. If this condition is present, it will have to adopt a diet low in carbohydrates. Simple sugars in any amount and high carbohydrate meals only nullify all other efforts in the daily diet and frustrate any long term ability at weight control.

In most cases, unwanted weight gain associated with birth control can be prevented by paying extra attention to diet and exercise or simply switch to a different type of birth control. The link between birth control and weight gain can sometimes be exaggerated, and it is time to break the myths.

What About Health insurance

Health insurance coverage can be a complex subject, so I WILL explain a few things to help you out.Health insurance plans don't have to be expensive to be good. Health insurance plans vary widely, both in cost and in benefits.
When he finally took his secondary education, there is no doubt that he enroll in a university. Many times when a child reaches the age of 20 years, are no longer covered by their parents, insurance and this can lead to a troubling situation if they are not working and just strictly going to college. However, many colleges offer health insurance plans. If one of these insurance plans are right for you or you do not have a lot of deliberation.

College health insurance benefits will vary from school to school. Although many people think they are free, this is not true. While there is usually no charge for a routine visit and examination, the student must pay for lab work and other specialist types of visits. Benefits are generally only pay full rate for services covered in the campus health center. In the event that you have to see a doctor outside the coverage of the student may drop up to 70% and the risk of being forced to pay a high deductible.

If you have a pre-existing condition, then you may have a problem with receiving treatment at the health center of the university. Have a pre-existing illness or disability does not mean that you will be disqualified from obtaining a health insurance plan for college, but you may not receive treatment for that pre-existing disease. This may lead to a series of problems arises if a new problem and is a product of a pre-existing disease.

All plans are different, so make sure you find everything you can about the plan of the university. Be sure to check if you or your child will be covered during summer vacation when students are not taking classes. This is important because you do not want to have an accident and discover that the insurance becomes inactive when not in class. Many colleges have coverage during summer vacation, but some do not.

Make sure you understand the plan. Is it an HMO, or the member can use any provider you want? This is so important because you want to know where you can go in an emergency, and there is nothing worse than discovering after the fact that he stuck with paying the full amount of a medical bill.

There is really no definitive answer as to whether they should commit itself to achieving the university health insurance. Make sure you fully understand your plan so that no problems can arise in an emergency. While insurance is not free, which will undoubtedly save you money in the event of an accident or illness.

Thinking About Weight loss

2:42 AM by dody · 0 comments

When you lose a tremendous amount of weight after gastric bypass weight loss surgery, is difficult to change our mentality and our way of incorporating new habits. As you lose weight, it is important to begin to "think like a person" or not (going to practice the language all together-twister) "think as they think thin." Why should we do?
Because if we do not, we run the risk of falling easily into bad habits and unhealthy we walked along the paths of obesity in the first place. No matter what stage of your journey of weight loss you are experiencing, sooner or later it will fall prey to nasty lifelong companions ugly (aka patterns). They devour their positive thoughts and urge you to glutinously consume all the things wrong with the food to fall back into bondage. But do not do it! Put on your armor THINKING THIN quickly to thwart any progress!

I remember as a young teenager, I knew that many colleagues, even at a young age, were obsessed with seeing their weight, counting calories, worried about getting enough physical activity, and monitoring the snugness of his clothing. I thought this was very strange because it has no weight issues then. I could eat almost anything and never been waged on a scale. Of course, thinking back, I was a high level of physical activity the person, and so this is why weight-seeing was not a deciding factor in my life at the moment. I had to think like a thin person.

However, when gradually became very heavy (317 pounds), I realized that part because I had no basis "to think as they think thin." And without that foundation to use, I missed a great opportunity to change some of my bad habits. Keep in mind that morbid obesity is much deeper than simply succumbing to unhealthy habits ... Morbid obesity has many facets of the same, but to write this, I want to focus on one element, which is like "think" we are.

When exploring the logic of how to think thin people, I realize some interesting behavior. Think thin people:

• Food portions

• How are full at every meal. They know when they can not take another bite, and stop eating

• How tight are your clothes fitting

• How do I see in the mirror

• How do you think the other

• Exercise or do something that was rather fun to do something that is sedentary

• Off Store extra entry for walking

• Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator

• Drinking water instead of soda

• Use of substitutes for sugar, protein, and taking your vitamins religiously

• Eat fruit instead of fries for a snack

• The maintenance of an "inexpensive" EMT weight for any team in an emergency

OH, how the list of concerns in the minds of thin people is endless! I bet you're considering a few now!

I have to laugh when I think one of my friends asked me to secondary school after lunch every day if I wanted to leave with her and "freezing my calories ... .. Really! She believes that the quake caused the burning of calories, so it does not matter if it was five degrees outside during a snowstorm, it outdoors in March for a five-minute and calories out SHIVER! CRAZY, huh? Well, every time I see her in my class meetings, it is still the same girl that is formed when thin .... So maybe she knew a thing or two about calories chills out! Today, scientists call the "concern" that has been proven to burn calories throughout the day. So nervous when you walk, you burn calories.

What we once viewed as strange obsessions from those who are thin, we must now see to have more value and importance, and should incorporate some of his wisdom in our daily lives so that we become trimmer and thin people, we think and act as a much.

Think like a thin person does not happen every day overnight. It is something that must be practiced continuously.

Now, of course, I never supported the sad eating disorders anorexic or bulimic people who participate in, or I approve or encourage starvation, as some super-thin people do to keep "Waif" look. Such disorders are dangerous and have no part in the thought as a thin person! This thinking and practices are twisted and do not represent the norm.

They say that after surgery, the view is about three years to really get used to the "new you." And I can attest that, as I am more than three years post-op now and sometimes forget that I have lost so much weight as I am still wandering in the department inadvertently Plus Size! The scale and the label of clothing can say a thing outside, but inside our mind was not totally convinced that they are thin.

Make some commitments today to start changing their mindset. Observe good practice in thin people and find a place in your life for these good practices. Gradually it will become a thin person, inside and out!

Easy Way To Avoid Those Holiday Pounds

Eating a healthy diet is of key importance to your weight-loss success. If you're eating more than you're burning, (your BMR + activity is 2000 and you're eating 2400 calories) you'll gain weight.
If you believe the old stories about a lot of weight in people during the holidays, you're right in part. In a recent study by the National Institute of Health, researchers found that, in reality, most people only tend to put in just under a pound. But a person who is already overweight averaged a whopping five pounds extra after the last horns have been destroyed.

But it is not good news for everyone, even those who put in the minimum because the study also shows that all tend to retain the post in pounds. In other words, more than ten years, those not-so-much pounds could lead to someone being overweight.

So what can we do to keep those pounds off? After all, our homes are usually filled with holiday pies, cakes and other sweets, and can be very tempting, even for the most faithful of a diet!

Here are some tips to get through the holidays.

Just a nibble!

Have you ever noticed that when you start eating a rich dessert that tastes so good, but the last bite, you've had enough? One way to keep the pounds down is just to enjoy a few bites that delicious cheesecake or chocolate fudge brownie. Nobody said that completely deprive yourself of holiday deals, just limit the amount you eat!

Enjoy the company, not the Brownies!

Many people think that parts of the holidays in terms of food is going to get to eat (or avoid), not the real reason for the holding-company and conversation. If you keep busy chatting with friends, you are less likely to invade the snack table.

Go Full

You've probably heard the grocery store trick, not to shop when hungry because I only recently bought more. Well, the same can work for you all! Eating a large amount of raw vegetables and other healthy foods that keep with you during the game and was less tempted to binge on the bad things.

Drink water

If you add up the calories you are likely to consume soft drinks, fruit punches and alcoholic beverages at parties, you may be surprised. You can gobble hundreds of calories without realizing that if you're not careful! Instead of these high calorie drinks, make a habit of drinking water in itself will help to eliminate the extra weight of water.

Create a calendar Comer

It would be fun or realistic to try to get through a party without at least some specimens of delights. But instead of heading immediately to the food table and loading your plate, and then suffering the rest of the party because he wants to try more spacing for snacks all the time in the match. When taking a nibble of something about every thirty minutes. Not only will help you eat less, will be a fun game you can play with you!

Most importantly, remember that holidays are to enjoy. Do not be too hard on yourself, and if you make a mistake, talk a long walk to work off the extra calories instead of beating yourself over to him!

Flax Oil

2:13 AM by dody · 0 comments
Labels:

What is it? To understand flax oil you have to understand what essential fatty acids (EFA's) are and what they do. The definition of an essential nutrient is anything the body cannot synthesize itself and therefore must be obtained from the diet. We need to eat an assortment of vitamins, minerals, approximately nine to eleven amino acids, and two fatty acids to stay alive and healthy (There is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate, but we'll have to discuss that at another time and place).
The two essential fatty acids we need in our diets are Linoleic acid (LA) which is an Omega#6 fatty acid and Alpha •Linolenic acid (LNA) which is an Omega#3 fatty acid. The highest known source of the Omega#3 fatty acid LNA is flax oil which also contains a small amount of LA (flax oil has 4:1 ratio of LNA to LA). Minimum requirements for essential fatty acids are 3#6% of daily calories for LA and 0.5#1% of daily calories for LNA.
What is it supposed to do?
As with most vitamins and minerals, it is virtually impossible to get optimal amounts of unprocessed essential fatty acids (especially the Omega#3 fatty acids) from our heavily processed food supply.
The term "Omega#3 fatty acid" should ring a bell for you
Fish oils are well publicized Omega#3 fatty acids that have been shown to have many benefits. Although early research told us we need a bit more LA than LNA, in practice we find that a diet higher in LNA gets the best results for a reduction in bodyfat levels.
Americans tend to get their fats from saturated fats, rancid fats, and highly processed fats (which contain byproducts such as trans fatty acids), thus giving fats a bad name.
EFA's are not to be avoided as a "bad fat" because all fats are not created equal. From a general health standpoint, EFA's are involved in literally thousands of bodily processes essential to our health and general well being. Immunity, aging, hormone production and hormone signaling... well, you get the point.
As one would expect, EF A's have been found to have many health uses including cholesterol reduction, cancer treatment and prevention and treating inflammatory conditions.
In particular, the Omega#3 fatty acids are antHipogenic (they block fat storage), anti#catabolic, anti#inflammatory, and they increase beta oxidation (fat burning!), improve insulin sensitivity, increase thermogenesis, and a whole lot more positive effects on fat loss we don't have the space, time, or need, to cover in this little booklet.
Recent research has found that EF A's, in particular the Omega#3 lipids, control gene transcription. For the more technically adept: Omega#3 lipids play essential roles in the maintenance of energy balance and function as fuel partitioned in that
they direct glucose toward glycogen storage, and direct fatty acids away from triglyceride synthesis and assimilation and toward fatty acid oxidation.
Omega#3 lipids appear to have a unique ability to enhance thermogenesis and thereby reduce the efficiency of body fat deposition. EFA's exert their effects on lipid metabolism and thermogenesis by up#regulating the transcription of the mitochondrial uncoupling protein#3, and inducing genes encoding proteins involved in fatty acid oxidation (e.g. carnitine palmitoyltransferase and acyl#CoA oxidase) while simultaneously down#regulating the transcription of genes encoding proteins involved in lipid synthesis (e.g. fatty acid synthase).
A lack of EFA's, in particular the Omega#3 EFA's, appears to be one of the dietary factors leading to the development of obesity and insulin resistance seen in Syndrome X (see section on Chromium for more information of Syndrome X).
Of particular interest, the body makes something called prostaglandins (as well as other highly unsaturated compounds) from both of the essential fatty acids. Prostaglandins are high active shortlived hormone#like substances that regulate cellular activity on a moment to moment basis. Prostaglandins are directly involved with regulating blood pressure, inflammatory responses, insulin sensitivity, immune responses, anabolic/catabolic processes, and hundreds of other functions known and yet unknown.
The long and the short of all this, without going into a long and boring biochemical explanation: Omega#3 fatty acids are responsible for forming the anti •inflammatory prostaglandins, and Omega#6 derived prostaglandins are responsible for making many of the pro#inflammatory prostaglandins (in addition other products derived from EFA's of which there are many).
Obviously, it's a lot more complicated than that, but hey, I only have so much space to write. It is probably easy to see from just reading this section that the metabolism of EFA's is quite complicated. If you are interested in a solid easy to read primer on the many functions of EFA's and uses of flax oil, read my book Priming the Anabolic Environment which has a chapter on the topic. For even more details on the many benefits of flax oil, as well as many other oils, read Fats that Heal Fats that Kill by my good friend Dr. Udo Erasmus.
