It seems that the integration of fast food restaurants and Western ways of life in countries like Thailand is having a profound effect on the health of the people of those countries. Thailand specifically was in the news recently for having the obesity rate in the country increase by 50% over the last 10 years. Many officials in Thailand blame the Westernization of the country for the epidemic.
It's no secret to most people that the sedentary Western lifestyle of desk jobs and drive through hamburgers can and does lead to weight problems. But the most interesting part about Thailand is that now cities like Bangkok are filled with weight loss solution ads and spas that use odd methods like suction and infra-red devices to help people quickly shed pounds. The generally consensus among Thai officials is that a diet higher in fat and a lifestyle lower in exercise is to blame for the obesity epidemic in Thailand.
